Purification of effluent water contg. sulphate and organic material - by anaerobic bacterial treatment and continuous desulphurisation of partial side stream

Parent patent described the continuous purificn. of highly polluted sulphate-contg. waters with a high organic content by treatment with anaerobic bacteria, with mixing of the reaction mass and removal of the sulphides formed from the sulphates using a stripping gas. Improvement is that a fraction of the main reaction mass is continuously removed into an auxiliary reactor and elimination of the sulphides is carried out exclusively in the auxiliary reactor. Modified process facilitates surveillance of the sulphide content of the mass.
