Collision prevention system for tower cranes - includes angular and radial position detectors providing warnings to both crane drivers when collision path is engaged

The anti-collision system for tower cranes is intended for use where two cranes operate close to each other. A smaller crane (B) stands within the operating circle (6) of a taller crane (A). The tall crane has a carriage (3) on one arm (1) balanced by a counterweight (4) on the second arm (2). The smaller crane similarly has two arms (7,o). Two detectors are provided to determine the anqular and radial positions of the arm and carriage respectively of the tall crane. If the angular position lies within a specified range (a), or the radial position is within a second specified ranqe (d), then warning signals are provided to the operators of both cranes. Warning lights are used, in a system having two alternative power supplies. The position detectors operate using micro-switches detecting the rotation of the wheels of the crane driving mechanism.
