Clay is dried and crushed into powder, and is then mixed with a lightweight granulate possessing low adhesive properties, followed by adding water so the clay forms a binder. The mixt. is then moulded into bricks, which are then dried and baked. The dry clay is pref. mixed with not more than 25% of its vol. of cellulose powder; and 1 vol. of granulate is pref. used with 1 vol. of dry clay. The pref. plant includes a conveyor belt carrying the clay underneath a heater to dry the clay before it enters a crumbler drum. The drum is followed by mixing tanks, moulding plant, and a baking furnace. The lightweight granulate pref. consists of polystyrene beads or vermiculite. Economic mfr. of bricks used for heat and sound insulation. The low wt. of the bricks reduces their transport costs.
