Automatic roller feeder for fine welding wire - is driven by stepper motor operated by electronic program controller

The feeder includes a spool of fine filler wire which can be driven towards a welding zone by a pair of rollers. One roller (a) has a peripheral groove into which the wire is pressed by a spring-loaded roller (b); and roller (a) is driven at a controlled speed by a stepper motor. The rollers (a,b) drive the wire through a guide tube ending in an outlet nozzle which does not conduct heat. The wire thus travels towards two pieces being welded. The pieces are pref. heated by a high frequency (h.f.) appts. while in a nitrogen atmos. A program controller pref. adjusts the welding parameters, including the speed of the stepper motor. Used e.g. for making welds in mfg. spectacles, jewellery, or electronic devices.
