Electronic dosimeter for ionising radiation - includes comparator circuit receiving signals from proportional detector and also reference voltage used for comparison
Dosimeter includes a detector, which produces voltage pulses (Va) proportional to the radiation received by the detector. The actual pulses (Va) are fed to one terminal of an amplitude discriminator, the other input terminal of the latter being fed with an adjustable threshold voltage (Vt). The output of the discriminator, ie pulses where Va exceeds Vt, are fed to a counter. Voltage (Vt) is pref. provided by a generator producing a saw tooth- or triangular- voltage with constant periodicity. The detector pref. has a linear characteristic, ie. the voltage pulses are proportional to the energy received from the ionising rays. Simple design; low wt.; easily carried by humans; low consumption of electricity; uses a conventional detector; and gives accurate results similar to those obtd. from an ionisation chamber w.r.t doses absorbed by human skin.
