Process for the treatment of acidic nitric aqueous effluents containing oxalic acid, usable in particular for permitting the recycling of the mother liquors from the precipitation of plutonium oxalate. This process consists: a. in adding a soluble vanadium compound to the said effluent; b. in heating the said effluent. After heating, by virtue of the presence of vanadium which promotes the decomposition of oxalic acid by nitric acid, the oxalic acid content of the effluent is sufficiently low to permit the recovery of plutonium by recycling in a plutonium purification plant.
