A dancing hula doll which alternately moves its hips left and right to give it a lifelikeness that compared with a real hula dancer includes an upper portion 2 simulating the head through waist of a human, a lower portion 10 simulating the waist through hip portion of a human pivotally connected to the upper portion by a hinge pin 15, and a base portion 15 supporting the upper portion and the lower portion by a support rod 6, one end of which is secured to the base portion and the other end of which is placed in a cavity within the head of the upper portion. The base portion includes a housing 30 with a turning plate 20 rotatably mounted on a stationary base 17 with feet spaced below the turning plate. A battery 26, a motor 39, an I.C. Electronic Melody Circuit (35-36) a speaker (37), a drive gear, including an eccentric drive 42 to a rocking lever 43 are housed in the base portion. When a switch is turned on, the motor rotates the plate 20 and rocks the lever 43, which in turn rocks the lower portion 2 on the hinge pin 15 simulating left and right hip movement as the doll slowly turns counterclockwise while a Hawaiian melody is produced.
