The agents protect wood and coatings against deterioration by microorganisms. The agents contain at least one compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein X is nitrogen or a CH group and R.sub.1 is a radical of the formula ##STR2## wherein Ar, R and Z are as defined in claim 1, or an acid addition salt thereof.
