NOVEL N-(1-SUBSTITUTED-2,2,2-TRICHLOROETHYL)-3,5-DIBROMOSALICYLAMIDE DERIVATIVE

NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R is 2-bromoethoxy, 2-chloroethoxy, 2-iodoethoxy; R1 is H, acetyl). EXAMPLE:N-[1-(2-Bromoethoxy)-2,2,2-trichloro]-3,5-dibiromosalicylamide. USE:A fungicide for agricultural and horticultural purposes. It has a wide range of antifungal spectrum against a variety of plant disease-causative fungi, espe- cially showing powerful effect in combating crop diseases such as cucumber downy mildew or powdery mildew. PREPARATION:According to the reaction equations, N-(2,2,2-trichloro-1- hydroxyethyl)-3,5-dibromosalicylamide of formula III is allowed to react with thionyl chloride in an organic solvent in the presence of a catalyst amount of DMF to form a compound of formula II, then, the product is, without isolation, heated together with an alcohol under reflux for several hours to give the compound of formula I.
