METHOD OF MEASURING DEGREE OF UNSATURATION OF THYROID HORMONE CONNECTIVE CAPACITY OF SERUM PROTEIN

There is disclosed a method of assaying the degree of unsaturation of thyroid hormone binding capacity of a serum protein, which comprises: (a) mixing a solution of serum protein with a labelled tri-iodothyronine (T3) tracer in the presence of a secondary T3 binder which is attached to a solid support; (b) admixing the resulting solution while rotating the solution for a sufficient time to cause a selective complexing to the secondary binder of the T3 tracer which is not bound to the serum protecin; and (c) separating the T3 tracer bound to the solid support from the solution and determining the amount of T3 tracer which is either (1) the T3 tracer bound to the serum protein in solution or (2) the T3 tracer bound to the solid support.
