MEASURING INSTRUMENT FOR BUTT ANGLE AND BUTT POINT FOR WELDING OF ELECTRIC WELDED STEEL PIPE

PURPOSE:To measure exactly the butt point for welding by calculating the space between the edges of an open pipe in a scanning position with a temp. converter which converts the values measured with thermometers to a temp. distribution and the temp. distribution which is the output of the converter. CONSTITUTION:The outside periphery of the open pipe 8 is scanned at =2 points of the butt point (V point) for the welding of a work coil 7 and the pipe 8 at an optional space and the brightness at said points is measured by the scanning type thermometers 1, 2. The temp. pattern having peak points is obtd. according to the temp. in the respective measuring positions when the brightness is converted to temp. signal by a temp. converter 3. The peak points of such temp. pattern are the edge corner parts of the pipe 8. The spaces between the peak points of the temp. pattern obtd. by the thermometers 1, 2 are designated as l1, l2 respectively, then the l1, l2 can be calculated at the space between the edges of the open pipe in the position where the pipe is scanned by the thermometers. The butt point for welding is thus more exactly measured.
