PURPOSE:To improve the heat and corrosion resistances of a precipitation- hardening heat-resistant Cu-Cr-Zr alloy by treating the alloy in an oxidizing atmosphere at a high temp. to form an oxide film of a proper thickness on the surface. CONSTITUTION:A precipitation-hardening heat-resistant Cu-Cr-Zr alloy is treated in an oxidizing atmosphere at a high temp. to form a dense Cr2O3 or ZrO2 film of about 5-100mum thickness having superior stability on the surface of the alloy. The formation of the oxide film can be accelerated by combining the surface treatment with chemical treatment such as treatment with chemicals such as HCl or NH4Cl. The corrosion resistance and durability of the alloy are improved, and a material suitable for use as a material for the combustion chamber of a rocket or the like exposed to a hot atmosphere is obtd.
