PURPOSE:To provide the titled agent for suppressing the death of poultry, containing Clostridium butyricum Miyairi as an active component, and exhibiting extremely remarkable effect for the improvement of the growth rate of a chicken when administered to a young or middle-aged chick. CONSTITUTION:The objective agent contains Clostridium butyricum Miyairi (Miyairi strain) as an active component. 1-200mg, preferably 3-20mg of the Miyairi strain is administered daily per 1kg of the poultry, by adding 10- 2,000mg, preferably 20-50mg of the strain to 1kg of a feed. There is absolutely no side-effects by the long-term administration of Miyairi strain to poultry. The Miyairi strain exhibits antibacterial activity against coli bacteria and Streptococcus aureus, etc. and proliferation-promoting action to useful bacteria such as lactobacillus, and is effective to balance the bacteria in the intestines.
