PURPOSE:To make a great amount of a natural red dyestuff grow from cultured matters in a short period under artificially controlled conditions and collect them, by culturing a callus derived from anthers of a plant of vitis in a liquid. CONSTITUTION:Anthers of a plant of the genus Vitis (e.g., Vitis uinifera L). are cleaned, sterilized, added to a solid medium for tissue culture and cultured to give a callus, which is cultured aerofically in a liquid medium for a proper period, for example, for 1-3 weeks to give a great amount of a cell having a natural red dyestuff. A red stuffdye to be prepared from the cultured cell is accumulated within the cell. Cultured matters are separated into the cell and a culture solution by filteration and the red dyestuff can be obtained by a suitable means, e.g., by extraction with water or an alcohol under acidic conditions, to collect the red dyestuff from the cultured matters. The natural red dyestuff is mainly useful as a colorant for a food additive, e.g., a drink, ices, jam, wine, etc.
