PURPOSE:To detect the conditions of a burden in a blast furnace by putting a video device in a heat resistant hollow tube with a window dropped in the burden and by lifting the device up or down. CONSTITUTION:A heat resistant hollow tube 5 having a tightly sealed lower end and =1 window 7 in the longitudinal direction is dropped in a burden 2. A video device 8 is then dropped to the position of the window 7, the burden 2 is observed, and the video is transmitted to the outside of the furnace through a cable 12. The powdering state, grain size distribution, dropping rate, etc. of the burden 2 are detected from the video.
