PURPOSE:To carry out nitriding quickly and to improve the abrasion resisting property and fatigue strength of steel material, by reacting N2 gas or NH3 gas etc. blowing the above gas against the surface of fused steel material. CONSTITUTION:Steel material having chemical composition and property of stainless steel and heat-resisting steel or similar to the above steel, is fused locally using suitable heating source, such as high frequency induction heating apparatus or plasma arc etc. Next, N2 or NH3 gas is blown on the above fused part, that is, on the surface of the steel material and nitride is formed reacting with nitride forming element, such as Fe, Cr, etc., in a short time. Hereby, nitriding treatment of the above mentioned steel is able to carry out in a short time compared with usual method.
