PURPOSE:To detect an astringent fruit on the basis of the degree of light transmitted through the fruit, by providing a hole to a dark chamber or box and holding the fruit toward the direction of an intensive white light source. CONSTITUTION:The small diameter side of a dark visual cylinder 101 is set to a visual peeping hole and a hole 201 for holding a persimmon 4 is provided to the large diameter side of said cylinder 101. The persimmon 4 is applied and held to the soft cushion material 201a provided to the periphery of the hole 201 and directed to the sun being a light source 3 to visually observe transmitted light from the small diameter side. The percimmon, in which 'goma' (fine black spots) is sufficiently generated, is dim only in the contour part thereof and the interior thereof is looked darkly as a whole. An immature percimmon, in which 'goma' is partially maldistributed, is looked so that some parts are dark and the other parts are bright. A mature fruit having no 'goma' is looked brightly as a whole.
