PURPOSE:To regenerate an anion exchange resin and obtain processed water of high purity, by causing a solution of caustic potash to flow upward at a prescribed rate through an ion exchange resin layer in regenerating the anion exchange resin. CONSTITUTION:An anion exchange resin 4, which contains a cation exchange resin K separated by back wash and having a relatively small grain size, is all transferred together with mixed ion exchange resins 5 and a cation exchange resin 3' by flow of water into an anion regeneration tower 6. Back washing water 2 is introduced into the column 6 from its bottom to perform back wash separation again in a conventional method. A solution 7 of 2-8wt% of caustic potash is introduced at a flowing speed of LV 1.5-8m/H into the anion regeneration column 6 from its bottom. As a result, the cation exchange resin 3' is deposited in the lower part of the column 6 and the anion exchange resin 4 is deposited in the upper part of the column. The anion exchange resin is thus regenerated while the cation exchange resin mixed in the anion exchange resin is separated therefrom.
