PURPOSE:To obtain a CoCr vertical magnetic recording medium having small pressure demagnetization by containing 20atom% or less of Fe in the medium. CONSTITUTION:A polyimide substrate heated in advance in vacuum and discharged with gas in a sputtering unit and a CoCr target scattered with Fe pellet uniformly on the surface are oppositely arranged. Then, the substrate temperature is set to 25 deg.C, sputtering power is set to 200W, Ar gas pressure is set to 2X10-2Torr, and a CoCr vertical magnetic recording film having 20% or less of Fe atom content such as (Co80Cr20)90Fe10 film is formed by sputtering on the substrate. Thus, a medium having small pressure demagnetization is obtained.
