PURPOSE:To obtain a reliable measurement, by a method wherein, after a shot- peening is made on an assembly body constituted scuh that a base member and a gear member are assembled together, the assembly body is disassembled to measure a residual stress at a gear bottom. CONSTITUTION:A gear 2 dividedly consists of a gear member 3 and a base member 4, and a notch part 3c is formed piercing a gear bottom 3b of a gear part 3a formed in the gear member 3. The gear member 3 fits externally to the cutside of the base member 4 to thread-mount them through a the plate 5 by means of a fixture bolt 6 to constitute an assembly body 7. The assembly body is then shotted by a shot projector 8 with the rotation of it about a center shaft 4c, and a residual stress is produced at a gear bottom 4b positioned corresponding to the notch part 3c. The assembly body 3 is then disassembled to cause the gear bottom 4b of the base member 4 to be exposed to a surface, and this allows the measurement of a residual stress of the gear bottom 4b without hindrance of the gear, and permits the reliable estimation of a residual stress produced at the gear bottom.
