A 3mm dia. operating needle is introduced into the bloom and a motor inside the vibrator moves it from side to side via an eccentric coupling. The needle dislodges pollen from the stamens which falls onto the carpels and fertilises the seeds. - The junction between the lower end of the stainless steel needle and the vibrating coupling is sealed by a flexible cap of plastics material. The d.c. supply from the rechargeable nickel cadium batteries is fed via an electronic speed control card and an on/off switch to the motor. The motor shaft is coupled to a shaft via a rubber shock absorber and the other end of the shaft has an eccentric pin which rotates the coupling into which the needle is inserted. (10pp Dwg.No.0/3)
