Waste materials contg. metals are treated with a liq. contg. a metal cpd. which will incorporate the toxic metals when pptd. from soln. Pref. the waste is suspended in the metal ion contg. soln., so that the toxic metals are dissolved, and then pptd. from the soln. as hydroxides by addn. of NH4OH. The ions to be pptd. are esp. Mn or Fe.
