Mfg. laminated object e.g. shin pad of e.g. polyethylene foam - by laminating open-cell outer with closed-cell inner layers and pressing to close outer layer cells while leaving inner layer intact

A method of producing a plastic object with a higher-density outer layer by laminating two layers of different physical characteristics. An outer layer of open-cell thermo-plastic foam amterial is affixed to a closed-cell foam plastic layer and the composite is pressed at a temp. which softens the outer layer whilst pressure and temp. are such that the closed cells of the inner layer remain intact and the open cells of the outer layer close. The two layers may consist of polythene-based material, the pressing temperature being around 200 deg. C.
