A weft insertion device is provided, consisting of a flexible strip 8 provided at one end with means 9 for gripping the weft, and capable of moving while being suitably guided through the shed, this device being mounted in conjunction with its actuating members by replacing conventional shuttle control mechanisms on one of the ends of the slay 3 with which it moves integrally. The mechanism for controlling the strip 8 comprises a cog 10 which is in engagement with this strip and which remains subjected to a reciprocating rotational movement of determined adjustable amplitude, through the use of suitable transmissions, via a member of the loom, and exactly synchronised with the oscillating tilting movement of the slay 3.
