The elastic coupling is for a central insert hitch of a rail vehicle and has a housing attached to the vehicle and a coupling rod which slides into the housing. The rod is restrained by plastics or rubber rings mounted in the housing perpendicular to its axis. The rod and housing have corresponding stop ribs and they both have an oval cross-section. One or more rings may be used, and the longer axis, of the oval cross-section of both coupling parts, is vertical.
