Iodine complex with poly:pyrrolidone - is water-insoluble and useful for biocidal bandages, sutures, ointments and powders

A complex of polypyrrolidone (nylon 4) and iodine possesses microbiological activity. The polypyrrolidone can be in the form of a bandage, a suture, a finely divided powder, a film, fibrils, a (non)woven textile, or a moulded article. The complex slowly liberates elemental iodine to give microbiological activity which can be utilised in bandages and sutures which are in themselves bactericidal and fungicidal, as well as in antiseptic ointments and biocidal powders. The complex is not easily removed by washing or transpiration.
