The invention relates to the purification of waste waters (effluents) which are loaded with sludges containing gases. A purification process is proposed having a phase for degassing the sludges by trickling them down onto a packed bed which is preferably inoculated with biologically active materials. Subject-matter of the invention is also an apparatus for carrying out this process.
