A weft picking mechanism comprises a first weft picker which picks up weft yarn from a single yarn reserve and moves it across the warp in a first direction to a half way position at which the weft is transferred to a second weft picker which has simultaneously moved across the warp in a second direct. The direction of movement of the weft pickers is then reversed so that the second weft moved the weft yarn over the other half of the warp to complete picking whilst the first weft picker returns to pick up the next weft from the yarn reserve. The weft picking mechanism is simple particularly its drive and only one weft yarn supply device is provided.
