2-(2-Methoxy -phenoxy)ethyl acetyl salicylate of formula (I) is new. Analgesic, antipyretic, antiinflammatory, and bronchosecretolytic agent, which is used to treat fevers, colds, rheumatic and neuralgia and esp. catarrhal and respiratory troubles associated with inflammation, fever, pain and tracheo-broncho-pulmonary troubles. (I) has lower toxicity than acetylsalicylic acid, superior analgesic, antipyretic and antiinflammatory activity than acetylsalicylic acid and a bronchosecretolytic activity comparable with that of gaiacol derivs. Activity and toxicity (LD50 of (I) oral in rats is 2934 mg/kg.; aspirin LD50 is 1400 mg/Kg).
