Polymerisable ethylenically unsatd. urea-urethane polymers are made by reacting a polyisocyanate with a polyfunctional amine with prim. and/or sec. amino gps. in the presence of (a) a polyol having no ethylenic double bonds, (b) diluents and (c) a polymerisable ethylen1cally unsatd. cpd. contg. active hydrogen, under such conditions that a dispersion of a polymerisable ethylenically unsatd. polymer in a polymerisable ethylenically unsatd. cpd. is formed. - In a pref. process, a polyisocyanate (I) is reacted with a polyfunctional amine (II) with prim. and/or sec. amino gps. in the presence of a polyol (III) with no ethylenic double bonds and a diluent (IV) to form an NCO gp.-contg. polyurea-urethane dispersed in an ethylenically unsatd. cpd.; and reacting the NCO gp.-contg. polyurea-urethane with an ethylenically unsatd. cpd. (V) with active H atoms to form the dispersion of the ethylenically unsatd. polyurea-urethane. - Prods. are curable compsns. with good rheological properties, esp. low viscosity and thixotropy, and cure to prods. with excellent heat resistance, adhesion, toughness, hardness and flexibility. The compsns. are esp. useful (1) as coating compsns. applied in-mould to give coatings less than 0.508 mm thick to fill in defects in the surface of mouldings so as to give mouldings with a smooth, fault-free surface; and (2) as injection moulding materials comprising a dispersion in an unsatd. monomer of the polymerisable polyurea-urethane, a mould release agent and a pref. fibrous reinforcing agent.
