A herbicidal compsn. contains 5-95wt.% of a furazan cpd. of the formula (I) and one or more adjuvants (including diluents, wetting agents and solvents). X = O or S; R = 1-6C alkyl, or opt. substd. phenyl, the substit(s). being selected from halogen, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, 1-4C haloalkyl and nitro; R1 = 1-10C alkyl, 3-8C cycloalkyl or opt. substd. phenyl, benzyl or naphthyl, the substits. being selected from the same atoms and qps. as those in R; R2 = H, 1-6C alkyl or phenyl, or -NR1R2 is an 8-membered heterocyclic ring. - Some cpds. (I) are known and some are new (but are not claimed). Pref. X is O, R is CH3, R1 is 1-5C alkyl, cyclohexyl or phenyl, and R2 is H. Specified cpds. include N-(4-methylfurazan-3-yl) -N'-methylurea and the corresp. N'-n-propyl, N'-isopropyl, N'-tert.-butyl, N'-cyclohexyl, N'-phenyl and N,N'-dimethyl cpds. (I) may be prepd. from 3-amino-furazans of the formula (II), or corresponding cpds. contg. -NCO in place of -NH2, by known urea-forming processes.
