New film- and fibre-forming polyarylene esp. polyphenylene sulphide

(1) New polyarylene sulphides have melt-viscosity etam= 20-500000 Pa.sec. and wt. average of relative mol. wt. Mw(rel.)= 25000-380000, where etam and Mw satisfy the equation: 1g etam =3.48 1g Mw(rel) - 14.25 + 0.1, esp. =3.48 1g Mw(rel) = 14-25 + 0.05. (2) The prepn. of high mol. wt. opt. branched polyarylene sulphides in the presence of an aminoacid or of a carboxylic acid ester or anhydride or of a lactam, is claimed.
