Concrete compsn. is obtd. from ground blast furnace slag and a reactant mixt. comprising NaON or KOH, H2O, K or Na polisilicate soln. and alumino-silicate oxide (SiO5, Al2O2)n wherein Al is in 4-fold coordination. Mixt. has oxide mole ratios (M=Na or K): 15 2O/SiO2=0.2 to 0.36; SiO2/Al2O3=3 to 4.12; H2O/M2O=12-20; 15 2O/Al2O3=0.6 to 1.36. Slag is 15-26% of wt. of reactant. Slag/H2O ratio is pref. above 0.42 and pref. H2O/M2O ratio is 12-16. In 1:2.7 cement-sand mortar, compressive strength is pref. 1000 psi after 1 hr. and 6000 psi after 4 hr., each at 150 deg. F-shrinkage after 2 months in air is less than 0.02.
