COLOR SLOW-SCAN TV SYSTEM AND METHODAbstract of the DisclosureA color slow-scan TV system and method are disclosedfor selecting U.S. standard NTSC TV color picture (oralternately other standards such as PAL or non-standardcolor TV) to be transmitted, transmitting the selectedpictures utilizing slow-scan techniques, and reconstructingthe pictures after transmission for display. The systemincludes a video compressor (transmitter) for receiving acomposite video signal indicative of a color TV picture andproviding therefrom a color slow-scan output signal indicativethereof, and a video expander (receiver) for receiving colorslow-scan signals after transmission and providing therefroma fast-scan output signal suitable for display of the colorTV picture. The system and method include digitizing aselected video signal indicative of a TV color picture,writing the digitized information into a digital memory,reading out the memory through a digital-to-analog converterat a color slow-scan rate suitable for transmission on atransmission channel, receiving the transmitted color slow-scan signal and digitizing the received color slow-scansignal, writing the digitized color slow-scan informationinto a digital memory, and reading out the memory through adigital-to-analog converter at a fast-scan rate suitable fordisplay on conventional color TV monitors using NTSC, PAL,or other standards.
