COMPOSITE MATERIALS MADE FROM PLANT FIBERSBONDED WITH PORTLAND CEMENTAND METHOD OF PRODUCING SAMEABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThe specification discloses a method of producingcomposite building materials from a mixture of plant fibersbonded with portland cement. Plant fibers, cement and solublesilicates in certain proportions are mixed and heated underpressure for a short period to get physically stable productthat can be cured under atmospheric conditions to full strength.The plant fibers may initially be pretreated with an aqueoussolution containing dichromate or permanganate ion prior toadding the cement to negate the adverse effects of set inhibit-ing water-soluble compounds in the fiber. Other chemicals maybe added to modify the reaction and improve the product.
