BOILER FEED WATER DEAERATORSPRAY VALVE TURBULENCE SHIELDAbstract of the DisclosureAn improved boiler feed water deaerator isprovided which includes a plurality of spray valveassemblies therein which are shielded to effectivelyeliminate undesirable valve chattering and vibra-tions resulting from the horizontal component ofincoming feed water and turbulent water flowthrough the valves. The valves hereof include anelongated, tubular, open ended water flow-direct-ing shield with a shiftable valve plug adjacentthe outlet end thereof. The plug is secured toan elongated stem disposed axially within theshield, and support structure is provided for thestem adjacent the upper inlet of the shield forpermitting reciprocation and limited pivotingmovement of the stem and plug. The ratio of theinternal diameter to the length of the shield isdesirably less than about 2 (most preferably about1) in order of assure that water entering theinlet end of the body is directed substantiallyaxially prior to discharge; this has been found tomeasurably reduce turbulence in the water andhence minimize potentially destructive valvevibration.
