A combination of a monochrome cathode-ray tube with a deflection unit for applications which require a high resolution, for which purpose the electron beam on its way through the deflection magnetic field produced by the deflection unit on the screen side thereof experiences the effect of a positive six-pole component of the line and field deflection field, and integrally experiences the effect of a six-pole component of the line and field deflection field component having a strength and polarity sufficient to warrant a spot quality as is required for high resolution, while preferably the effective length / of the deflection fields satisfies the conditionwhere L represents the distance between the deflection point and the display screen and i is the tangent of the deflection angle of the electron beam for maximum deflection.
