An alarm giver for dwellings and industrial premises, in which the housing serves as a support for a mains-supplied and fixedly installed or movable arranged lighting member. The alarm giver can serve, in the case of ceiling or wall light fittings, as a supporting socket for the lighting member, as an integrated part of the masking cap for the ceiling connections of the lights, or as an integrated part of the pull-down roller of a pull-down lamp or part of the supporting frame of a hanging light. In this case, the housing can be provided with guide or retaining members for suspending the lighting member or for integrating the alarm giver into the suspension of the lighting member. The housing can be an integrated part of the foot of a standard lamp or table lamp, or an integrated part of a lampshade. The power supply and the transmission of electrical alarm signals to an externally situated location are performed via the mains line, for which purpose a mains adapter is provided which consists of a voltage transformer and a recording unit which are connected via an emergency switch and an output amplifier with modulators, by means of which an optical, acoustic signal is generated as a function of the type of hazard detected, or an electrical signal is modulated onto the mains voltage as a carrier frequency via non-sparking relays.
