A process for preparing oriented amorphous polyethylene terephthalate yarns for false-twist texturing comprises spinning at min. 5000 m/min winding speed, and quenching by a liq. located at such distance from the spinneret that the boil-off shrinkage of the quenched filaments is 45% min. Pref. the spinning speed is 5500 m/min. The amorphous nature of the spun yarn is maintained by liq. quenching as opposed to air quenching. Pref. false-twisting of the feed yarn is done with simultaneous draw-texturing at 1.01-1.2 draw ratio.
