Contrast agent and chemotherapy method to deliver encapsulated micelle particles to human tumor

A micelle compsn. comprises small micells with a dia. of less than 2000 angstroms prepd. using a chemically pure phospholipid and encapsulating imaging or chemotherapentic agent for treating a tumor. Specifically, the phospholipid is distearoyl phosphatidylcholine (DSPC) with a purity of at least 98%, opt. used in combination with 2-50 wt.% cholesterol. The chemotherapeutic agent is methotrexate. The imaging agent is In-111 chelated with a weak chelating agent. The micells provide effcctive transfer of the encapsulated imaging or chemotherapcutic agent across blood vessel membranes to the tumor site.
