A radio telephone system for highways uses stationary transmitters and stationary or moving subscribers. It permits a large number of speech channels with a highly efficient channel access. Each of the 7 to 9 radio traffic ranges receives an allocated duplex signalling channel for signal transmission and information exchange between stationary and mobile stations. This applies both in the dormant period and during the making of a connection. This achieves a decoupling of signals transmitted by the stationary transmitter stations of adjacent radio traffic ranges. These duplex signalling channels are used in both signalling directions.
