The prostaglandins possess the formula IMAGE in which R1 represents hydrogen, a lower alkanoyl or trihaloalkanoyl group, an optionally substituted benzoyl group, or a lower alkoxycarbonyl group, an optionally substituted phenoxycarbonyl group or a benzyloxycarbonyl group, R2 denotes hydrogen, or an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms, and R4 denotes hydrogen, or a tetrahydropyranyl group, trialkylsilyl group or p-phenylbenzoyl group, and Q represents hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or a non-toxic cation. These prostaglandins possess an alpha-adrenergic stimulatory activity. The compounds of formula XII are obtained by reacting a compound of the formula XI with a phosphorane which is prepared from a triphenyl(4-carboxybutyl)phosphonium salt. IMAGE
