There is described a process for separating Laurent's acid from a mixture of Laurent's acid and peri acid. The mixture of the two acids is slurried, admixed with ammonia or an organic amine, and heated, and the slurry is then filtered hot. The heat in the presence of ammonia or an amine causes the peri acid to dissolve, and in this way it easily removed by filtration. Laurent's acid is an important intermediate for preparing textile dyes.
