The parting system is for split plates produced in pairs and joined together by pencil shaped ribs, particularly thin ones as used for wall cladding etc. One of the two plates is held against a stop while pressure is applied to the other so as to part them from the ribs. The pairs of plates (2, 3) are delivered flat by a conveyor belt (1) and at intervals at least equal to their length, and past a stop (5) to the side of and above the level of the belt, at the level of the bottom plate (2) resting directly on the belt. The top plate (3) is then thrust by a ram (8) acting in the direction of the stop and towards an opposite punch (6) offset from the latter so that it is held suspended between the two. On retraction of the ram, it drops into the free space on the belt between the bottom plate, which has meantime been indexed forward, and the next pair of plates.
