In the case of a lock nut for highly-stressed bolts having a smooth bolt cylinder, especially for chain bolts in carriers for load chains in underground operation, which are threaded onto the smooth bolt cylinder between the supports of the carrier, which have mutually aligned recesses in which the screw bolt is supported, onto whose external thread the lock nut is screwed and is supported on the outer edge of the recess, it is provided according to the invention that the recess of the nut is divided into an internal-threaded section starting from one end and a smooth-cylindrical section adjacent thereto, on which the internal thread of the nut is backed off, and that the nut is plugged by means of its smooth-cylindrical section onto the screw bolt and, after the internal-threaded section has been twisted onto the external thread of the bolt, engages at least partially over the smooth bolt cylinder.
