The invention relates to a cape for covering the neck and shoulder region of individuals whose hair on the scalp is to be subjected to treatment with a liquid or to another treatment, the cape consisting of an absorbent mat provided with a cutout for the neck region and divided towards this cutout and whose surface region facing the body parts or items of clothing to be covered has a liquid-impermeable layer and is provided with means for fixation of the divided parts in the use position. It is the object of the invention to improve a cape of this type in terms of its sealing effect and at the same time to extend the scope for adaptation to different neck widths. This object is achieved, according to the invention, in that the mat is provided in its zone (4) adjoining the periphery of the cutout (2) for the neck region with incisions (5) dividing this zone into freely movable individual segments (6) (Fig. 1).
