Method for coding digital signals or alphabets, in particular for transmission via terminal and/or connection lines in telegraphy and data transmission systems and for push-button dialling in switching systems. For the transmission of digital signals, a method is known in which the coding of these signals is carried out by means of the length of one-stage code elements in conjunction with two or more one-digit, two-digit or multiple-digit characteristic segments. The object of the present invention is to achieve optimum transmission reliability and transmission quantity in methods of this type.
