An effluent treatment apparatus for installation in tanks for effluent treatment by the activated sludge process, having a plate-shaped support, which divides the tank into an aeration chamber and a secondary clarification chamber and which is provided with a through-hole for activated sludge/water mixture and a sludge passageway in its lower region in the operating position, an air feed device provided on the support for feeding air into the effluent present in the aeration chamber and, preferably, an outlet channel attached to the support, characterised in that the air feed device is equipped with an injector mounted on the support which injector is equipped with an air suction line conducted upwards and can be fed with effluent as propellant by an effluent pump provided on the support, and in that a switchable valve device is provided on the support by which the inlet of the effluent pump can be supplied as desired with sludge from the secondary clarification chamber and/or with effluent and the outlet of the pump can be connected as desired to a sludge discharge or to the propellant inlet of the injector.
