A fur stretcher for the prestretching of pelts, such as mink and the like, for furrier processing. Said fur stretcher serves the purpose of simplifying and accelerating a regularly occurring task, requiring experience and dexterity, and of improving and standardising the result. After cutting off the non-usable parts, both halves of the fur have the shape which is most favourable specifically for omission processing. For this purpose, the leather is moistened and drawn over the stretcher so that the centre of the back and the centre of the belly are placed at the two edges. By displacing and fixing the two stretcher parts, the desired shape of the fur is achieved. After drying, the fur is cut open at the centre of the belly and thus removed from the stretcher.
