A process for the preparation of a metal-ceramic conductor and the application of the method

Prodn. of a cermet conductor, in the form of a salt-supporting opt. pulverisable body or a (selective) coating permanently bonded to an insulating substrate by firing, comprises: (a) mixing a ground glass frit, contg. 2-30% (by wt. of total oxides in the frit) of elements (calculated as oxides) suitable for doping silicon, with technical purity silicon powder; (b) opt. simultaneously or subsequently mixing with a volatile liq. dispersant; (c) moulding the material or coating an insulated substrate with the material; (d) firing at 700-1300 deg.C; and (e) opt. stabilising the electrical resistance of the resulting conductor by subjecting it to a current load much higher than that in use.
